These are a great idea. The padding is nice and thick in the important places to prevent damage to wrists and - more to the point - the delicate nerves inside just below the skin.
My wrists are quite small and even the "small" size is rather baggy. Therefore they sometimes catch the swing arm of the cuffs, but that's a minor point. These are definitely worth having for your health and safety.
